Interaction can be difficult to achieve and as the inventor is my responsibility create reactions. My quote " The limits of my language mean the limits of my world." at first made me think of alphabet and words. How some words can be international and reminded me of a work i saw recently by Karl HolmQvist exposed on Gulbenkian.

After changing ideas with my partner we thought of how we can communicate even if we are from different countries and for that we use English. We realized how knowing different languages changes your limits. Our limits also change depending on our beliefs and religion, we communicate what we know and what we think or even belief.

We also thought how symbols can be another way or communicating as well as brands. so we searched international language and used commercial advertisement from major brands as McDonalds and Coca-cola. And with this realized how some brands are so widely known that the brand somehow becomes an international word.

We thought we were being to literal with the quote so decided to keep our minds open and see what else could me associated with language witch we thought was the most important.

We thought then of body language and how it can limit or even be unlimited.

This commercial shows how a brand like McDonalds can signify an international word where even if you don't know the language you know the meaning.

Karl Holmqvist  Untitled ( Beba coca ) 2011

Exhibition at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. A way of communication, language, alphabet.

This poster and commercial shows the importance of body language in our lives.

Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people to communicate.  It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order.

With Makaton, children and adults can communicate straight away using signs and symbols.  Many people then drop the signs or symbols naturally at their own pace, as they develop speech.

For those who have experienced the frustration of being unable to communicate meaningfully or effectively, Makaton really can help.  Makaton takes away that frustration and enables individuals to connect with other people and the world around them.  This opens up all kinds of possibilities.

Makaton uses signs, symbols and speech to help people communicate.  Signs are used, with speech, in spoken word order.  This helps provide extra clues about what someone is saying.  Using signs can help people who have no speech or whose speech is unclear.  Using symbols can help people who have limited speech and those who cannot, or prefer not to sign.  https://www.makaton.org/aboutMakaton/

Again the importance of body language. how our moves and actions explain us.

Inspirations, ideas and research for the poster final outcome.

'Being able to communicate is one of the most important skills we need in life.  Almost everything we do involves communication; everyday tasks such as learning at school, asking for food and drink, sorting out problems, making friends and having fun.  These all rely on our ability to communicate with each other.' Makaton.

Our finale outcome are the posters and video. Both emphasize the meaning of our actions as our way to communicate. Actions as the act of language.

The posters inspired in makaton symbolise simple daily actions representations. International symbols that can be recognized everywhere. We decided to make it in black and white since most on makaton's pictures are in black and white, also because if not colored our only attention is the action and thats our purpose. Also the word eat, teddy, sleep, drink, interesting are writing in different ways and and faded because you don't need the word to know what's happening.

For the video we ask for people to only using hands explaining what's limit. We got some interesting reactions but with this we realized how hand gestures can limit us since we asked for someone to guess what is the word perhaps few could have. The limits of my actions is the limit of my language is a quote we thought it would reflect the whole meaning of our idea of movement as international language.

As the interaction i think it worked well but because we had short time to make it and no quality cameras for it so the final outcome quality couldn't be the best, therefore we focused on the idea behind it to support it.
